One of the Reasons I Homeschool

There are soooo many reasons I homeschool.  I should start an official list.

It’s funny because most homeschoolers know that there is a huge difference between the lists for why we homeschool and the lists for why we don’t have our kids in public school, sure some of the reasons overlap, but not all.  I have a rather large list of reasons why I homeschool.

Each list is unique for the person making it, though mine has many items in common with friends.

Today… I’d like to share one of the major reasons I homeschool.

It happens to also be one of the major reasons I wanted to be a stay at home mom, even before I saw the biblical call to do so.

Here it is:

PL proud of reading

Do you see that beaming grin?  Do you see that pride in accomplishment?  Do you see that my son just did something well and wonderful?

I do see.  And I did.  First hand, when it actually happened.  Because I was right there with him.  Snuggled up in my bed, watching my precious boy learn to read.

I wouldn’t miss that for the world.

Or for a $30K+ salary.

Or for a bigger house.

Or for serving other children.

I could have all of those, if I was still teaching outside the home.  If I was still a teacher for the deaf.  If I hadn’t chosen to stay at home when I became a mama.

I remember watching HB learn to crawl and thinking, “I am so grateful to be here for this.  The gift of witnessing this.  Why in the world would I want someone else to be there for the other amazing milestones, including the academic ones?!”

I want to be there when light bulb moments happen in my children’s lives, if possible.

I loved being the one there providing an encouraging environment for all of the physical milestones a baby goes through and now I loveLOVElove being the one there providing an encouraging environment for all of the academic ones.

Sure, there are tough days and tough milestones that are rough on all of us, but… these moments…  lightbulb moments are worth it.

That is just one reason why I homeschool.  It’s a pretty great one.
