Why I Heart My iPhone

My Sweetie had an iPhone not long after they came out.  It was his work phone.  When we switched jobs, he had to say good bye to the iPhone.  The kids and I had a time of mourning.  We loved that phone more than he did.  To him, it was just a phone.  To us, it was a fun part of life.

Now that I now have an iPhone (thanks, Sis!), I’m fully smitten again.  As are the children.  There are lots of reasons I enjoy having an iPhone, most of them practical.  The main benefit to our family, though, has been something unexpected.

We’ve been able to “catch” the unexpected.

Moments of normalcy that I will forget someday.  Moments of hilarity that will be appreciated for decades.  Moments of tenderness that will stir my heart always.

I didn’t think I could carry around a video recorder all the time.  Turns out I can, if it’s an iPhone.

We have recorded some of the funniest sides to our family life and we all love watching the videos.

I shared the one of Wee Babe reading the Arabic Bible.  That video is still a top favorite to watch.  Hil.ar.i.ous.

This comment makes me crack up and I’m glad I had my phone to record it.

And I”m betting The Boy will love having me play this at his wedding reception.

Having the chance to record a moment of accomplishment that may not be on stage or earn a badge, but was meaningful nonetheless, made Cutie Pie and I both pleased.

Capturing our family “count off” for posterity’s sake, warms my heart.  Some day I’ll be too old to remember how it sounded and I’m going to like having the chance to hear my kiddos “count off”.  Actually, I’m already forgetting things, so…

Having video footage of those you love quadruple-zillion-double in value when that loved one is no longer with you.  I sure wish I had had this chance to capture daily life while my mom was still with us. I remember the first time we watched a home video that had my mom in it and I heard her voice for the first time in months after she died.  My heart skipped a beat.  There is something very beautiful about hearing the voice of someone you have lost.

I’m reminded that I need to let my kids video me some.

We are just loving “our” iPhone.  We are just loving these family moments recorded.   While most of these moments have been under a minute in recording time, the value of each of them can not be measured.

What have you been video recording and do you utilize the video feature like you should if you have an iPhone?

Oh that is fabulous. Although I don’t have an iphone we did get new phones that video, I haven’t really utilized it yet, but I think I will now.
We also got a flip video camera for christmas a year ago, it is small enough to stick in purse or pocket wherever I go, we have really enjoyed having it. I love seeing the kids so grown up, it all happens too fast!

Love it! Makes me remember I need to utilize mine more. Specifically to capture our count off, too.

(Z says he wants to go to the “special playground” next time we come to town. 🙂
