Do you love shoes?  Do you love remembering mamas?  Do you love helping others?

Well then, the If the Shoe Fits, Buy It 2011 Event is for you!

Three years ago in honor of my mother, I declared January 25th (the day she went home to glory) If the Shoe Fits, Buy It Day!  It was to help me focus on the joy and not on the sorrow. It gave me something to do other than sitting home wailing.  Seriously.

Now If the Shoe Fits, Buy It Day is a day to have fun and remember her.  My mom loved shoes (seriously).  She loved rationalizing a new pair of shoes (and usually then an outfit to go with those shoes).  She also loved a good cause.

So… all of those things are involved on the ITSFBI Day this year.  I’m giving you justification to go buy a new pair of shoes: it would make me happy and would help me feel like people are remembering my mom.  They don’t have to be fancy, or expensive, or any particular kind.  They just have to fit (funny story on the first ITSFBI day here).

There is one other HUGE aspect for this year, though.  I’d like us to give shoes to a hundred people!

Soles 4 Souls is a ministry that donates a pair of shoes to people who need them.  Soles 4 Souls collects shoes and redistributes them AND they take donations.  $1 = 1 pair of shoes!!  That’s quite a bit of shoe for your buck!  Much better than my Tom’s, which I love.  Seriously, where else (other than Dollar Store cheapo flip flops) can you get a pair of shoes for a dollar?

Here’s what you can do to help reach the goal of one hundred shoes this year:

You can take a couple of pairs of shoes to a Soles 4 Souls location or you could bring your shoes to me (if you are local) and I will bring them to a collection site or you could donate to Soles 4 Souls or you could all of the above (who am I to limit you?).

How wonderful would it be to have a hundred shoes donated in my mom’s name?  Pretty stinkin’ wonderful, I think.  That’s my goal= 100 shoes in honor of my mom.

Naturally, a giveaway is involved.  You could win a $30 gift card to Amazon!  There are a couple of ways to participate:

1) Donate at least $10 (feel free to donate more 😉 ) to Soles 4 Souls in  my mom’s name (Georgia Lagarde) (=10 entries for every ten dollars)

2) Bring at least two pairs of shoes to a Soles 4 Souls location (=5 entries)

3) Buy a pair of shoes in honor of my mom, either on January 25th or around then  (=5 entries)

4) Blog or share on Facebook about this event before January 21st (= 10 entries for each)

Oh, I’m so excited about this!  I will still be buying a pair of shoes for myself (I’m my mother’s daughter, don’tchaknow), but giving a bunch of shoes to people in need is super fun and helps share the love.   I will clean out my closet some and I can even take a few of her pair of shoes to donate.   I know it’s a tough time of year to shop for yourself, so… feel free to shop for someone else!

Let’s have a super If the Shoe Fits, Buy It Day this year!

Who’s in?

**** P.S. I forgot to say that I’ll need you to post a comment for each entry that you do, so I know.  Anyone can post comments (I approve all nice ones 😉 ) here.  I’ll have another post on the 25th so you can chime in with what ways you participated!

Okay coming back with my entry info — donated 10 pair via Soles 4 Souls (hooray for easy on-line donating, even internationally!).

Will take (but have not yet) 2 pair to the Red Cross donation center for flood/mudslide victims of the recent mudslides in Rio de Janeiro state. You may choose to count that as an entry or not : )

Did facebook it, but not until today, so don’t count it, just letting you know I did it. I think I put it in my profile…??? Not sure. New to the whole facebook thing 🙂

And I do plan to look for shoes on Thursday, which I know is 2 days late. I’ll send pics if what I shop for comes home with me. Happy as always to help you honor and remember you mom in this way.

Hoping you reach the 100 shoe goal!!!

GfG, I just love you and your sweet family! Nurse Georgia (or at least to me she was Nurse Georgia) was such a wonderful lady! You were so blessed to have had her as a momma, and so blessed to be able to get to see her again.
I just purchased a pair of shoes from Target online… 🙂 Black & Silver sequenced flats 🙂 Can’t wait to see them. I am pretty sure I have not bought a pair of shoes since this day last year, which were a pair of flats from Target. 🙂
We miss you guys, and hope that you can find happiness in today knowing that your Mom met our Maker this day 3 years ago! What a glorious day!

I also bought a pair of shoes at the thrift store in town a couple days earlier (but thought of your mom… just didn’t want to leave them until the exact day or they’d be gone… ) , blogged it, and facebooked it.
